Vision Statement - Africa
Giving Heart Ministries envisions joyful life spiritually, physically, emotionally, and socially
among people in Zowe and contiguous communities, and among all involved in the
organization’s work.
Mission Statement
The mission of Giving Heart Ministries, Africa is (i) to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ
through missionary and evangelistic activities (ii) to share the love of Jesus Christ by working
to relieve suffering through addressing human need and (iii) to share blessings and cultural wealth. The
organization carries out its mission through linking the privileged and underprivileged for the purpose of
laboring together.
Initiatives - Africa
There are seven main initiatives in which we are currently engaged:
Building Loving Relationships:
We seek to cultivate loving, assertive, and purposeful relationships among people, with God, and with their
environment through holistic Christian outreach activities. These relationships serve as the cornerstone for
sustainable improvements that will transform communities. Without deep, human connection, people are
unable to dream, grow, and realize their full potential, identity and vocation.
Health Improvement:
This involves (i) monitoring mortality and morbidity rates, mapping the underlying problems, and identifying
opportunities, and strategies for their reduction, (ii) developing initiatives to address
specific situations. Activities include (a) employing a health worker to assess problems
and opportunities; (b) training people in nutrition, health care, sanitation, and
prevention of HIV/AIDS and other diseases; and (c) providing medical care and Under-
Five Clinic services including nutritional status monitoring, supplementary feeding
and immunizations.
Formal Education:
Our work centers around:
(i) improving educational facilities and supplies,
(ii) managing a Zowe Educational Scholarship Trust Fund, (iii) attracting and retaining qualified teachers,
(iv) establishing an income generating, self-sustaining school farm where students will learn agricultural
technologies through vocational instruction,
(v) implementing a School Breakfast Program for Zowe Primary School students, thereby meeting an important
nutritional need and significantly improving the learning environment.
Capacity Building:
We are working with community leaders to design and maintain a functional, vocational, and technical literacy
inventory and training program. It is crucial for the sustainable transformation of the community that the skills,
talents, and capabilities of all its members be valued, developed and utilized.
Income Generation: The focus here is on identifying community-level business ventures that generate
revenue for deposit in the Community Fund. This Fund would then be a source of credit for individual
community members’ profit-generating business or farming activities. Revenue generating, community
business ventures currently being explored include (a) a pounding, grinding, and packaging mill, (b) a solar-
powered baking oven, and (c) a bio-gas manure plant.
Food Security: We are working to improve food security by (i) advancing organic agriculture and the growing
of improved crop varieties, (ii) encouraging livestock feedlots for clan based land tenure. Sections would be
fenced and seeded with appropriate feed crops. Livestock owners would commercially market their livestock
and/or products while ensuring the herd and the land are replenished, (iii) managing a food security supply
center.
The Energy Initiative: Bio-Gas and Solar are being introduced as alternative sources of healthier
and more environmentally friendly energy.
